The Indian National Muslim League has welcomed the unanimous judgment of the Supreme Court allowing construction of a Ram temple at the site in Ayodhya where Babar Masjid stood till it was pulled down on December 6, 1992.
It has given 5 acres to the Muslims to build a mosque elsewhere in Ayodhya. The court has entrusted the construction of the temple to a trust to be set up in three months by the Government of India.
In a statement in Chennai on Saturday, IUML president K M Khadar Mohideen said the Constitution Bench has pronounced its verdict and everyone should accept it and welcome it and not go into the merits and demerits of the order.
While the All India Muslim Personal Board is considering filing a review petition, Mohideen said the case had reached a finality with the highest Constitution court giving its judgment.
“We all should respect the verdict and cooperate in implementing it,'' he said, implying that Muslims should not put obstacles on the building of a Ram temple at Ayodhya. Prof Mohideen said the dispute had torn asunder the country for the past several decades. “This is the time has come for us to put the past behind and strive to build a harmonious India”, he said.
