New Delhi, Nov 6: On the third anniversary of the demonetisation, Congress on Friday hit out at the Narendra Modi Government with former president Rahul Gandhi terming the note ban a 'terror attack'.

"It’s three years since the demonetisation terror attack that devastated the Indian economy, taking many lives, wiping out lakhs of small businesses and leaving millions of Indians unemployed", Mr Gandhi tweeted.

He also said, "Those behind this vicious attack have yet to be brought to justice.''
In a televised addressed to the nation at 8 pm on November 6, 2016, Modi announced the move and said it was to end corruption, black money and terror funding.

Congress general secretary Priyanak Gandhi also criticised the government, asking "anyone want to claim responsibility" of the 'disaster'.

"Three years since demonetisation and every claim made by the government and those hailing it as a slayer of all evils has been turned on its head. It proved to be a disaster that has all but destroyed our economy", she tweeted with a hashtag, 3YearsOfDeMoDisaster.

AICC communication in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala also took on the government and described Modi as 'today's Tughlaq'.

"In the year 1330, Sultan Muhammad bin Tughlaq made the country's currency useless. Today's Tughlaq did the same on November 8, 2016," he tweeted in Hindi.

"Economy collapsed, employment lost. Neither terrorism stopped, nor the business of fake notes. Even after three years, the country is suffering" Mr Surjewala added.
Referring to the global rating agency Moody's lowering the outlook on the country's rating to negative, the Congress spokesperson said that on the third year of demonetisation, "it proved that the exercise was a 'man-made catastrophe'.
In a series of tweets, Congress party lashed out at Modi government over the move and said "three years after that fateful night the effects of this disastrous policy are still felt amongst various sectors."

"There has been no decision taken by any government in India's history that has caused such a devastating impact on our economy as demonetisation," it said.

The party said even after three years, "the pain and fear still lingers in people's lives and the devastating effect on the economy reverberates through every sector."
It asked "Does the BJP govt have the courage to accept is faults?"

Taking on the government, the Congress added that the greatest cost of demonetisation was the human cost. "105 Indians lost their lives because of this government's tactless decisions. Today and every day we stand with their families, their friends and their memory", the party said.

"The dairy sector has suffered its worst fate due to the disaster of demonetisation. Consumption has fallen significantly and as a result, dairy farmers are suffering a terrible fate. This government has proven their ineptness and complete disregard for Indian people," it added. (UNI)
