New Delhi, Oct 29: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman released a special commemorative coin on Paramahansa Yogananda, to mark his 125th birth anniversary here on Tuesday.

'Paramahansa Yogananda was a great son of India, who became so recognised globally. His penetrating sharp eyes were full of divine force,' she said.

Yogananda was a monk, yogi and guru, who introduced millions to the teachings of meditation and Kriya Yoga through his organisation Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) or Yogoda Satsanga Society (YSS) of India.

On the occasion, the Finance Minister said this moment is a big honour for her, adding that the importance lies in his universal message of bringing harmony among mankind and making it so acceptable globally, even when communications modes were limited.

'India feels very strongly about this great son of the Universe, who brought in harmony to all our hearts and minds,' the Finance Minister said at the function, where her deputy Anurag Thakur, other monks and devotees, among others, were present. (UNI)
