Rajouri, Oct 27 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Diwali with the Army on Sunday in Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir.
This is the first visit of the Prime Minister after the abrogation of Article 370, a special status of the state.
"Celebrated #Diwali with the brave soldiers of the Indian Army in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir.
It is always a matter of great joy to be able to interact with these courageous personnel." Mr Modi said in his tweet after the visit.
Wearing a combat jacket, Modi exchanged wishes and sweets during his nearly two-hour-long interaction with the troops deployed along the Line of Control, officials said.
His visit also coincided with the Infantry Day celebrations, observed to mark the landing of first Indian troops in Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 to push back Pakistan-supported intruders.
"While interacting with our soldiers, I thanked them on behalf of the people of India for their monumental service. Their vigilance and valour keeps our nation safe!
I also spoke about the major steps our Government is taking for the welfare of soldiers." he said in another tweet.
Last year also, he celebrated Diwali with the Army and the ITBP personnel in the icy terrain near the India-China border in Uttarakhand.(UNI)
