New Delhi, Oct 25 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed confidence in the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh region and said that he was delighted to share that Block Development Council polls in Jammu,Kashmir and Ladakh were held peacefully.
The Prime Minister said that this shows the people’s unwavering faith in democracy and the importance they accord to grassroots level governance. These polls that witnessed 98 per cent voter turnout marks the dawn of a new and youthful leadership across the regions, which will make a monumental contribution to national progress in the times to come, PM Modi said.
'The polls witnessed a historic turnout of 98 per cent. There were over 1,080 candidates in the fray in 310 blocks.', PM Modi said, taking to twitter this morning.
'For the first time since 1947, Block Development Council elections were held in Jammu, Kashmir, Leh and Ladakh on October 24,' Mr Modi said. 'The polls witnessed a historic turnout of 98 per cent. There were over 1,080 candidates in the fray in 310 blocks,' the PM said in a tweet. He extended his wishes and congratulated those who won the polls.
The Prime Minister further said that this development would make the country's Parliament proud that due to their historic decision in August, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been able to exercise their democratic right with exceptional enthusiasm, as seen in the historic turnout of 98 per cent that too without violence or disturbance. 'I am delighted to share that the BDC polls in Jammu, Kashmir, Leh and Ladakh were conducted in a very peaceful manner.
