Delhi, 25 Oct 2019: Manohar Lal Khattar is likely to take oath as Haryana CM for the second term on Saturday, highly placed BJP sources said.
BJP has reportedly managed to get support of six Independent MLAs. It is said that the controversial Sirsi MLA Gopal Konda orchestrated the entry of independent MLAs into the BJP camp. It is said that the two INLD MLAs have also extended their support to BJP in Haryana. The saffron party, which won 40 seats, was six short of a clear majority.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to stake claim to form the government in Haryana with the support of Independent MLAs on Friday itself. Top BJP sources say that Manohar Lal Khattar may be sworn in as the chief minister for the second term either on Friday or Saturday. Earlier, Manohar Lal Khattar had sought time from Governor for a meeting. But later he cancelled his meeting with Haryana Governor Satya Narayan Arya and instead flown to New Delhi to meet BJP central leadership as the plan of getting support of independent MLAs came to fruition. In the 90-member Haryana Assembly, the BJP won 40, Congress 31, JJP 10 and Others 9 seats in the just concluded Haryana assembly elections.
Meanwhile, hectic parleys are on in Haryana after the state delivered a fractured mandate in the assembly election results announced on Thursday. Earlier, the speculation was that Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) leader Dushyant Chautala will be the kingmaker of the post poll negotiations. But as BJP reached the magical 40, the game take a u-turn and BJP leaders turned to eight independents to get support. With the help of Gopal Konda, BJP’s mission accomplished without effort.
The JJP chief is likely to meet his party’s newly-elected MLAs today before announcing his decision. But the ambivalence among Congress leaders about the support of Dhushyant Chautala also played spoilsport.
