New Delhi, Oct 23 : Former Finance Minister and Indian National Congress leader P Chidambaram on Wednesday moved a bail application before Delhi High Court for grant of bail in INX Media case.
Central Bureau of Investigation had registered an FIR in the month of May 2017 over alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance(FIPB) to INX Media for receiving overseas funds of ₹305 crore in 2007, when he was Finance Minister. CBI arrested Chidambaram from his residence in New Delhi on August 21 amid high-voltage drama.
Directorate of Enforcement has registered a case under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act and has got custodial interrogation of him to unravel the money laundering of proceeds of crime in the matter. CBI Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar on October 17 after hearing the plea on behalf of Counsel for Directorate of Enforcement passed an order to interrogate Chidambaram till October 24 in INX Media case and also allowed him home cooked food, western toilet and medicines in ED custody.
The Supreme Court yesterday granted bail to Chidambaram in the CBI case, rejecting the plea that he may pressurise the witnesses or was a flight risk. (UNI)
