In a sharp statement against his former party chief, Mr. Rahul Gandhi, senior Congress leader, Mr. Salman Khurshid said on Wednesday that the former walked away at a time when the party needed him the most.
Expressing concern over Congress’ future, the former Union minister said that he was deeply pained to see as to where the party was heading.
'Despite our earnest and urgent pleading, Mr. Rahul Gandhi resigned and left. If he had stayed we could have made a better analysis, be better prepared for the future,' he was quoted as saying.
'I have very deep pain and concern about where we are today as a party. No matter what happens we won't leave the party, we aren't like those who got everything from the party and when the chips were down, things were difficult they left the party and walked away,' he added.
Mr. Khurshid, however, asserted that the Congress workers are still with Mr. Rahul even though he was no longer party president.
