New Delhi, Oct 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged the people to work towards furthering empowerment, as well as dignity of women, celebrating the accomplishment of Nari Shakti.
Addressing the gathering, while attending a Ram Leela event at DDA Ground in Dwarka of the national capital, Modi said, "In the last nine days, we worshiped Maa. Taking that spirit ahead, let us always work towards furthering empowerment, as well as dignity of women.
"This Diwali, let us celebrate the accomplishments of our Nari Shakti. This can be our Lakshmi Pujan," he added. The event was organised by the Dwarka Sri Ram Leela Society.
The Prime Minister also fired an arrow to burn the effigies of Ravan, Meghnad and Kumbhakaran.
"We should try and eliminate the use of plastic, it should be a mass campaign", the Prime Minister said.
Pointing out that this year's Vijayadashmi is being celebrated at the time of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary, the Prime Minister said, "Let us take up one mission this year and work to fulfill it. This mission can be - not wasting food, conserving energy, or saving water".
About the Air Force Day, which also falls on October 8, he said, "India is phenomenally proud of our Air Force".
The Prime Minister also said that India is a land of festivals. "Due to our vibrant culture, there is always an occasion or festival in some parts of India. Every festival brings the society together."(UNI)
