Over 60 women Cong workers detained for protesting against Nirmala Sitharaman

Agency News

Hubbali , Oct 5: More than 60 women Congress workers, protesting against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman over 'insufficient' flood relief funds released by the Centre, were detained by police on Saturday.

The Congress workers, led by KPWCC secretary Deepa Gouri, were protesting outside Hubbali airport over the amount of flood relief funds disbursed by the Centre for Karnataka.

The protestors raised slogans against Ms Sitharaman and displayed placards against the union government.

They alleged that the Central Government has not disbursed sufficient funds for the flood victims of the state.

Amid criticism over the delay in releasing central funds for flood relief, the Centre on Friday finally announced advance release of Rs 1,200 crore from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) to Karnataka.

The central government has granted Rs 1,200 crore that too after two months, while the state government had asked Rs 38,000 crore. This money is insufficient for the flood relief management. They could have granted at least 5,000 crores, the agitated Congress workers said.(UNI)
