Mi-17 V5 crash: IAF to take disciplinary action against 2 officers

Agency News

New Delhi, Oct 4 :  Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria on Friday said that the Court of Inquiry (CoI) has been completed and a disciplinary action against two officials, who shot down our own IAF chopper a day after the Balakot attack, will be taking soon.

Addressing an annual press conference here ACM Bhadauria said, “The Court of Inquiry has been completed last week. We accept it as a big mistake and a disciplinary action against two officers will be taken.”

A day after air strikes on terror training camps in Balakot in Pakistan on February 27, the IAF chopper Mi-17 V5 was shot down by friendly fire.

A Russian made Mi-17 helicopter of the IAF crashed even as Indian and Pakistani fighters were engaging each other over Nowshera, in Jammu and Kashmir on 27 February. All six airmen on board the helicopter were killed.

The Air Chief also said that IAF is also considering designating all personnel killed in air-crash as “battle casualties”.

The Court of Inquiry (CoI) is just complete and it shows the IAF shot down the helicopter by mistake, the IAF Chief said. (UNI)
