Ahmedabad, Oct 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the historic Sabarmati Ashram of Mahatma Gandhi, on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary.
MModi, who arrived here this evening, reached the Ashram after attending an event, held in his honour at the airport.
The ashram, on the western bank of river Sabarmati in Ranip area of the city, was Gandhiji's residence from 1917 to 1930 (till the historic Dandi March) and was witness to many historic meetings and strategy-making for the freedom struggle.
Modi garlanded a bust of Bapu on the Ashram premises, with the traditional cotton garland. He visited Hriday Kunj, the residence of Gandhiji in the ashram, which has been turned into a modern centre, where things, records and photographs related to Bapu, are kept.
Modi spent around 20-30 minutes in the ashram. Governor Acharya Dev Vrat and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani were also present on the occasion. (UNI)
