New Delhi, Sep 27 : Former French President Jacques Chirac, who served as president from 1995 to 2007, died at the age of 86, according to his family members.
In a televised address to the nation, President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to “a great Frenchman”, saying: “We have lost a head of state who we loved as much as he loved us.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the death of former French President Jacques Chirac. "My deepest condolences on passing away of Jacques Chirac. India mourns the loss of a true global statesman," he tweeted.
Prime Minister said the former French President was a "friend of India" and he had played a decisive role in establishing and building India-France Strategic Partnership.(UNI)
