New Delhi : Chartered accountancy (CA) students across Indian are on warpath against the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) demanding a re-evaluation of their answer sheets.

CA Students are holding protests outside ICAI Office in ITO, Delhi from Monday onwards. On September 23, more than 150 students staged a protest outside the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India's (ICAI) central office. Soon, the protests are taking place throughout India, including Durgapur, Siliguri, Bhilwara, Hyderabad and Jaipur.

As ICAI released the model answers for an examination it held in May 2019, students alleged that there were discrepancies in the way their answer sheets were marked. Many students released photographs of their answersheets, which went viral, on social media complaining their answersheets were not marked as per the model answers. In a statement, ICAI has clarified that a majority of these are fake and are not answer sheets of this year.

On Thursday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi extended his support to the students agitation, tweeting: "Across India 12 lakh CA students are fighting for their right to have their exam papers re-evaluated by ICAI. Given the widespread reports of errors in the evaluation of answer sheets, this demand is justified and should be supported by all political parties," Rahul Gandhi tweeted using the hashtag "#dearicaiplschange".

CA students alleged that the ICAI deliberately tampered with the results in the second and third stages to suit keep passing percentage to a certain limit. Many students claimed that their answer sheets were not evaluated properly. CA students are demanding better transparency in the paper evaluation process.

" Candidates are not given marks even in the multiple-choice questions (MCQ). This is done under Section 39 of the CA Regulation which gives ICAI the right to manipulate marks in order to maintain their passing ratio," News Agency ANI quoted one student, Tarun Choudhary, as saying.

Right now many hashtags , #icaipresidentmissing, #DearICAIAmend39_4 , #dearicaiplschange, are trending and CA students even questioning ICAI President Prafulla Chhajed over his silence on the issue.
