New Delhi: As a prelude to deepening friendship, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a big ‘thank you’ to the Congress leader Milind Deora who had praised Modi for his speech at the ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Houston.
Taking to Twitter on Sunday, Mr Deora, had called PM Modi's address a "momentous first for India's soft power diplomacy". He had also said that his friends in the US "acknowledge India's leadership in the 21st century".
"PM Modi's Houston address was a momentous first for India's soft power diplomacy. My father Murlibhai (Former Minister Murli Deora) was one of the early architects of deeper Indo-US ties. Donald Trump's hospitality and recognition of Indian-Americans' contributions makes us proud," added Deora in his tweet.
In almost a surprising move, PM Modi, in a tweet, replied with a ‘thank you’ to Mr Deora’s remark.
"Thank you Milind Deora. You are absolutely correct when you highlight my friend, late Murli Deora Ji's commitment to strong ties with USA. He would have been really glad to see the strengthening of ties between our nations. The warmth and hospitality of the US President was outstanding," PM tweeted.
Milind Deora’s praise to Modi has come as a shock for Congress where many leaders including senior Congress leader Anand Sharma launched a stinging attack against PM Modi for campaigning for US President Donald Trump in US.
Milind Deora, who replaced Sanjay Nirupam as Mumbai Congress chief shortly before the 2019 Lok Sabha election, comes from a Congress family. His father Murli Deora was one of the frontline Congress leaders of his time. Milind Deora recently announced his resignation from Congress earlier in September.
