New Delhi, Sep 21: Welcoming the announcement of Assembly polls in the states of Maharashtra and Haryana by the Election Commission, the Congress on Saturday said that it was ready for the elections and would fight with expressed confidence and said it would contest them on real issues.
Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, AICC spokesman Pawan Khera said, 'we welcome the announcement of the elections. The party will contest these elections on the real issues that include unemployment, economic slowdown, farmer distress and others.
The Congress party will raise the real issues, from which the government is diverting attention of the people, with full strength.'
He said that the Congress party will bring up the issues and demands of the farmers from Haryana and Western UP who have been holding protest sitting on the outskirts of the national capital and will also raise the issue of recent drop in the sensex which is ringing an alarm for the stock market.
He said that the shutdown of many factories in the past three months also amount to the real issues that are affecting people. Taking a dig at the government he alleged that they have kept behind bars a former minister that too without concrete proof against him.
He also hit out at the government on the money put in by the LIC in the loss making PSUs and banks in the past five years. He said that this is the sign that the current dispensation is allegedly misusing the LIC money. (UNI)
