New Delhi, Sep 21 : Congress on Saturday appointed journalist-turned politician Supriya Shrinate as party spokesperson.
"Congress President Sonia Gandhi has approved the appointment of Supriya Shrinate as Spokesperson of the All India Congress Committee", said a statement issued by AICC communication in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala. Ms Shrinate, who was the Congress's candidate from Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha polls, however lost to BJP's Pankaj Chaudhary.
A former TV journalist, Ms Shrinate is the daughter of former Congress MP Harsh Vardhan. Harsh Vardhan was a two-time MP from the Maharajganj.
Recently, Ms Shrinatre had held a press conference at AICC headquarters, along with another party spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee, over the Shahjahanpur rape case, in which the BJP leader Swami Chinmayanad is an accused and arrested. (UNI)
