In a major development in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case, the Supreme Court has set a deadline of October 18 to complete arguments in the Ayodhya land dispute case.
A bench led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said that submissions in the case are likely to be completed by October 18. 'As per the estimate of tentative dates to finish the hearing, we can say that the submissions have to be likely completed by October 18,' he CJI said on behalf of the five-judge Constitution bench.
The bench added that day-to-day proceedings, however, would continue as hearing has reached an advanced stage.
The Chief Justice so stated that the mediation process in the Ayodhya case can continue simultaneously and parties still desirous of settling the dispute amicably can do so.
'Simultaneously, the mediation process can go along with the hearing, which is going on in the Supreme Court, and if an amicable settlement is reached through by it, the same can be filed before the SC,' the court said.
