New Delhi, Sep 12 : Body of Indian Army officer Lt Col Gaurav Solanki, who went missing on September 8 during a Kayaking trip near Tchegera Island, was retrieved on Thursday from Lake Kivu in Congo.
“Intensive search was carried out to retrieve the officer. The mortal remains of the officer was retrieved on Thursday at about 1100 hrs inside Lake Kivu, approx one kilometer from the island,” an Indian Army official said.
The lake is on the border between Congo and Rwanda in Central Africa.
On September 8, Lt Col Solanki went for Kayaking trip with a group of officers to Lake Kivu. After kayaking, all returned, but for the officer.
All efforts including deployment of speed boats and helicopter were made to locate and rescue the officer, the official added.(UNI)
