Police summons BJP leader Mukul Roy in cheating case

Kolkata, Sep 9 : Kolkata Police has summoned BJP leader Mukul Roy to appear by this afternoon before an assistant police commissioner in a cheating case of several lakh of rupees with promises to make a man to provide membership into the Indian Railways board panel.

Roy has been asked to appear before the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Behala (south Kolkata ) by this afternoon.

Incidentally, BJP labour wing leader in West Bengal Baban Ghosh was arrested by Kolkata police in August last on charges of taking bribe to ensure membership into the rail panel.

Baban Ghosh, a close aide of former union minister Mukul Roy is the general secretary of the labour, arrested on charges of cheating, a criminal conspiracy among others based on the complaint filed by one Santu Ganguly, who has alleged that between 2015-2016 he had given close to Rs 40 lakh to become a member of a railway committee. Santu has alleged that Baban used Mukul Roy's name to get money in installment from him.

The FIR names Mukul Roy as one of the accused.

Fearing arrest, Mukul Roy moved Calcutta High Court on Wednesday to get an anticipatory bail and awarded relief up to September 18.

However, the court directed Roy to cooperate with the police for its investigation. (UNI)
