New Delhi, Sep 4 : After months of infighting between different groups, the Congress on Wednesday announced Kumari Selja as new PCC president, replacing Ashok Tanwar, in Haryana. The party also announced Bhupinder Singh Hooda to be party's Legislative Party leader and chairman of Congress's election management committee in the state, where assembly election will be held by the end of this year.

Congress general secretary in-charge of organisation, KC Venugopal and general secretary in-charge of Haryana, Ghulam Nabi Azad, announced at the AICC headquarters. Earlier, various leaders had met party interim president Sonia Gandhi over the issue to selecting new PCC chief, after Mr Hooda and his loyalists demanded the removal Mr Tanwar.

Mr Tanwar was appointed by the then Congress president Rahul Gandhi in 2014. Kumari Selja, a four time MP and a Minister in the previous UPA government had lost the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Ambala constituency. UNI
