Bengaluru, 04 Sep, 2019: Karnataka Congress on Wednesday has called for a statewide bandh after the arrest of senior Congress leader from Karnataka DK Shivakumar.

Violent protests rocked parts of Karnataka after Shivakumar was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday. Meanwhile, supporters of Shivakumar burned KSRTC buses in Kanakapura and Ramanagara Wednesday morning to mark their protest. A crowd, shouting slogans, blocks the main roads in Chennapattna, Kanakapura and burn tyres. As a precautionary measure, the district administration has declared holiday to schools and colleges on Wednesday.

Protests erupted in several parts of the state wherein Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses were targeted. Police control room Ramanagar has informed KSRTC not to operate buses on Wednesday till they give clearance. Buses were even targeted in Malavalli, Kanakapura and Channapatna.

Hitting out at the BJP over the arrest of DK Shivakumar, Congress veteran Mallikarjun Kharge said a fear psychosis was being created so that no leader joins the Congress.

Shivakumar is expected to be produced before a court on Wednesday in New Delhi. DK Shivakumar was arrested on Tuesday after several days of questioning by the ED. The Congress has termed Shivakumar's arrest as vendetta politics and accused the BJP of using the ED to intimidate the Opposition.

Moments after the ED arrested DK Shivakumar, Congress workers started protests in various parts of Karnataka and even in New Delhi. After being arrested, DK Shivakumar was taken to Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where doctors tried to control his blood pressure and sugar levels.
