Agency News

New Delhi, 04 Sep, 2019: After arresting Congress leader DK Shivakumar, Enfocement Directorate(ED) was taken him to Tughlak Road police station as there was no lockup available at the ED HQ. Shivakumar will be produced before a court in Delhi on Wednesday by the ED for seeking his custody.

He was taken into custody by Enforcement Directorate when the former cabinet minister and sitting MLA from Kanakapura seat appeared before the agency for the fourth time for questioning on Tuesday. DK Shivakumar has been arrested by ED in New Delhi in connection with a money laundering case. He was placed under arrest under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the officials said. The Congress leader needs to be put through custodial interrogation and hence was arrested, they said.

Meanwhile in Bengaluru, Congress workers protest against the arrest of DK Shivakumar by Enforcement Directorate (ED), near the Mahatma Gandhi statue. Earlier, Karnataka High Court had dismissed a petition filed by Congress leader DK Shivakumar seeking that the court quashes a summons issued by the Enforcement Director in a money laundering case.

Dismissing the plea, Justice Arvind Kumar, the Karnataka High Court judge, asked Shivakumar to appear before the ED for questioning. After this, the ED served him a fresh summons to appear before it on Friday for questioning in Rs 7-crore money laundering case.

The case against former irrigation minister Shivakumar related to the alleged seizure of cash at his residence in New Delhi by the Income Tax Department during a raid in August 2017.
