Shah, Nadda meet Jagmohan on abrogation of Art 370

New Delhi, Sep 3 : BJP president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday met former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Jagmohan Malhotra as part of the saffron party's Janjagran Abhiyan on the government move to abrogate Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Met Shri Jagmohan Malhotra ji, former Governor of Jammu & Kashmir as part of BJP’s nationwide Sampark and Janjagran Abhiyaan, to spread awareness about the benefits of abrogating Article 370 & 35A, a historic decision, by PM Narendra Modi ji," Mr Shah tweeted.

The BJP chief was accompanied by party's working president J P Nadda and also Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Last month, the BJP announced that it will reach out to 2,000 prominent personalities from different fields including politics, films, sports and academia among others as part of its nationwide campaign to tell people on the achievements of the government vis-a-vis handling the tough situations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The abrogation of Article 370 has been one of three major electoral promises of the BJP since its formation. On August 5, the central government announced its decision to abrogate Article 370 - that till hitherto used to give a special status to the militancy-hit state.

The BJP-led NDA regime also decided to bifurcate the state of Jammu and Kashmir granting union territory status to Ladakh region and also announced that J&K will be henceforth considered only a union territory.

The 91-year-old Jagmohan was Governor of Jammu and Kashmir during the tenure of V P Singh as Prime Minister.During his tenure as Governor, militancy in the troubled state had reached its peak. Jagmohan was known for having an hardliner views on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. (UNI)
