New Delhi, Aug 28 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday thanked Bollywood actor Aamir Khan for his support to the movement to eliminate usage of single use plastic.
Mr Modi replied to a tweet of Aamir Khan in which the actor had said,'The initiative by the Hon'ble PM @narendramodi to curb 'single use plastic' is an effort all of us should strongly support. It's up to each of us to make sure we stop using 'single use plastic'.'
'Thank you @aamir_khan for the valuable support to the movement to eliminate usage of single use plastic. Your encouraging words will inspire others to strengthen the movement as well,'the PM said.
Mr Modi on Sunday through his 'Mann Ki Baat' programme on All India Radio had said Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary, should mark the foundation laying of a new revolution against plastic and on October 2, the nation must dedicate to him an India that is Open Defecation Free, but also free from use of 'single use plastic.'
Urging the corporate sector to come out with ways and means to proactively dispose of all accumulated plastic, Mr Modi said,'it can be recycled; it can be transformed into fuel. This way we can accomplish our task of ensuring safe disposal of plastic waste before this Diwali. All that is needed is a resolve.' (UNI)
