The Uttar Pradesh police have lodged an FIR against former Union minister of BJP and Godman Swami Chinmayanand for sexual harassment.

The FIR was filed on a complaint by a man, who accused that Swami Chinmayanand has sexually harassed his daughter. The issue of sexual harassment came out after the girl, a law student at Swami Shukdevanand Postgraduate College in Shahjahanpur, posted a video clip on social media on August 23, in which she alleged that Chinmayanand, the director of her college, was threatening to kill her and her family. She added that the threat is due to the evidences she had that could land him in trouble.

In the video, the girl had accused the BJP leader of "destroying the lives of several girls" and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for help. She went missing the following day.

Shahjahanpur Superintendent of Police (SP) S Chanappa said Chinmayanand was booked late Tuesday night under Sections 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on a complaint by man, who accused the former minister of state for Home of having sexually harassed his daughter.
