New Delhi, Aug 27: Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla who took over last week on Tuesday chaired a high level inter-ministerial review meeting on the implementation of various Central schemes especially the schemes of ‘Direct Benefit Transfer’ in Jammu and Kashmir and steps to be taken to restore normalcy there. According to a source in the Home Ministry, the Secretaries of Finance, Law and Justice, Telecom, Highways, Rural Development, Agriculture and Urban Development participated in the meeting.
This high level meeting also discussed the implementation of the Jammu and Kashmir Re-organisation Bill passed by the Parliament on August 5 bifurcating the State into two Union Territories which will be effected on October 31, the source said. The meeting also discussed the distribution of staff and assets of the State between the two proposed UTs and the implementation of various Central schemes, the concerned Ministry also presented a road map to step up the developments in the state.
The Jammu and Kashmir Government has already set up a committee for the division of the state and the initial discussions have been taken place. The Ministries like Minority Affairs and Skill Development have sent their teams to Jammu and Kashmir to access the avenues for the state. Kashmir Valley has been reeling under restrictions since last 23 days and the state administration has been easing the curbs in a phased manner. Schools and offices have been reopened and attendance is showing encouraging signs, government sources said. (UNI)
