Delhi, 23 Aug, 2019: Supreme Court on Friday granted interim protection for former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case.
However, P Chidambaram will have to spend four days in CBI custody as the Supreme Court on Friday posted the hearing in both INX media cases - by CBI and ED - for Monday.
The SC recorded that the former minister has always been on bail and he has been cooperating with the probe.
Congress leader and senior lawyer Kapil Sibal told the court that the Delhi high court order was copy-pasted from ED notes. "If a court starts cut, copy and paste of a note damming me, what chances can I have to get relief? And this too, after reserving judgment for seven months".
P Chidambaram was arrested late on Wednesday night by CBI after the Delhi High Court on Tuesday rejected his pre-arrest bail. On Thursday, a CBI special court sent Mr Chidambaram to CBI custody for five days, saying it was "justified" and the "enormity of the alleged money" required an in-depth probe.
