True to his style Congress MP Shashi Tharoor came out in support of his party colleague and former Union Minister P. Chidambaram with a tweet backing the ‘persecuted’ Chidambaram and praised his ‘strength of character’. He ended the tweet saying that they will have to allow ‘malicious minds their ‘schadenfreude’.
The big word of German origin, ‘schadenfreude’ meaning enjoyment derived from the suffering of others, had internet users rushing to check the meaning as they are prone to do with yet another ‘Tharoorism’.
Chidambaram’s luck ran out on Wednesday when the Supreme Court refused to give him an urgent hearing on his bail plea and pushed the petition to Friday. The Enforcement Directorate [ED] issued a lookout notice for him and he was arrested among high drama from his home on Wednesday night.
The Congress leader came under the scanner after his son Karti had been accused of receiving huge kickbacks in the INX Media case of 2007. Chidambaram was the UPA Finance Minister at that time. Of course Chidambaram’s version is fully not known. The fact that the prosecution is mainly relying on the version of a murder accused, Indrani Mukherjee, a mother who has allegedly murdered her daughter, turned approver, according to Congress spokesperson raises a few questions, as also the allegation that there is no charge sheet so far. The conduct of the central agencies has also come under the scanner and needs to be clarified according to some.
