Chidambaram in CBI special court; CBI seeks 5-day custody

New Delhi, Aug 22 : After two rounds of questioning which prolonged around 3 hours, the CBI team produced former Finance Minister P.Chidambaram before CBI Special court by 3.30 pm on Thursday.

Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi were present at the court to express solidarity to the Congress veteran P. Chidambaram. In the argument CBI alleged that Chidambaram is not cooperating with questioning. In the argument, S-G Thushar Mehta, who appeared for the CBI, sought 5 days of custody of Chidambaram for the interrogation.

The legal team including Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi are there at the CBI court. Meanwhile, CBI officials have completed two rounds of questioning of P Chidambaram regarding with INX media case at the probe agency's headquarters, the sources said. Security has been tightened outside the CBI headquarters.

Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram was arrested on Wednesday night by 9.30 pm by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from his Jor Bagh residence. The detention of the former Home Minister by a CBI team from his Jor Bagh residence came amidst a high voltage drama as large number of Congress supporters thronged the senior leader's residence even as the teams of the CBI and ED reached there.

He was taken to the CBI headquarters by a team of the agency for questioning. According to the CBI sources, the former Finance Minister has been arrested on an arrest warrant issued by a competent court. The former Finance Minister was questioned last night at the probe agency's headquarters, the sources said. UNI
