New Delhi/Chandigarh, Aug 21 : A large number of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and workers on Wednesday staged a ‘dharna’ against central government for demolition of 540-year-old Guru Ravidas temple at Tuglaqabad by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and demanded restoration of the monument.
Interacting with mediapersons here, Leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Harpal Singh Cheema said the Central Government was solely responsible for the demolition of the historic temple as the DDA was under its direct control. "It brings forth the anti-Dalit face of the government," Mr Cheema alleged.
The AAP leader said some BJP and Akali Dal (Badal) leaders were also holding pseudo ‘dharnas’ for grabbing eyeballs and winning sympathy of people.
If Modi government was concerned about a large number of followers across the world, it would have come out with a viable solution arising out of the apex court’s order, he claimed.
Attacking Congress, AAP leader Rajinder Pal Gautam said the problem would not have arisen had the Rajiv Gandhi-led Congress Government not facilitated the acquisition of 13 bighas of temple land by the DDA in 1986.(UNI)
