New Delhi, Aug 19: External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will be visiting Nepal on August 21 and 22 to co-chair the Fifth Meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission. "Dr Jaishankar is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu on August 21, and depart for New Delhi on August 22," a Nepal foreign ministry source said. Nepalese Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and Dr Jaishankar will co-chair the meeting leading their respective delegations at the meet.
The Joint Commission Meeting will review the overall state of bilateral relations, and various areas of cooperation such as connectivity and economic partnership, trade and transit, power and water resources sectors, culture, education and other matters of mutual interest, the source said. The Nepal-India Joint Commission was established in June 1987. Its meetings are held alternately in Nepal and India. The last meeting of the Joint Commission was held in New Delhi in October 2016.
During his visit, sources said Dr Jaishankar will also pay courtesy calls on President Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari and the Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli. Nepal Foreign Minister Gyawali will also host a dinner in honour of External Affairs Dr Jaishankar, sources said. UNI
