New Delhi, Aug 17 : President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday wished people of the nation, especially Parsi brothers and sisters on Navroz, the Parsi New Year.
In a missive on Twitter, Mr Kovind said, ''Navroz Mubarak to everyone, especially to our Parsi brothers and sisters. Our much-loved and enterprising Parsi community has contributed enormously to the nation’s prosperity and welfare. May the coming year bring health and happiness to all.''
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished the Parsi community. In a message he said, ''Our nation is proud to be home to the dynamic Parsi community that has played a vital role in developing India.'' ''May the year ahead be full of happiness, good health and prosperity. Navroz Mubarak,'' Mr Modi added.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi also wished the Parsi community on Navroz and said, "every new beginning is the chance to make most out of it, adding that may the coming new year further the spirit of happiness, peace, harmony and brotherhood."
Greeting the Parsi brothers and sisters on the joyous occasion of Navroz, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said: ''May you be blessed with growth, prosperity and peace in the new year.''
On the occasion, Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Z Irani said,''prayers for good health, success & happiness for all. Navroz Mubarak.''
Parsi new year or Navroz, marks the beginning of Parsi calendar. It is also known as "Jamshedi Navroz" after the legendary King of Persia Jamshed. The religion of Zoroastrianism, followed by Parsis, was founded by the Prophet Zarathustra in ancient Iran approximately 3,500 years ago. In India, presently, over 70,000 Parsi resides, mostly in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa.(UNI)
