Jammu, Aug 15 : Jammu on Thursday celebrated Independence Day with enthusiasm amid patriotic fervour.
The main function was held here at Mini Stadium Parade.
Advisor to Governor Farooq Khan unfurled the Tricolour on the occasion. He spoke about Abrogation of Article 370 and also appreciated the security forces.
The event saw enthusiastic participation of student contingents and cultural troupes from several schools.
Besides, several contingents from NCC, Jammu and Kashmir police, armed and para military forces also participated.
Later, the chief guest inspected the parade and took the salute at the march past comprising contingents of District Police, CRPF, JKAP, NCC, Forest Protection Force and students drawn from various schools.
A scintillating cultural bonanza, featuring patriotic and culture themes besides message against the social evils was presented by the Children drawn from government and private schools of the city and its peripheries. The event witnessed a large participation of school children, civil society members, contingents of belt force personnel, senior civil and police functionaries.
However, tight security arrangements were made in and around the venue for peaceful celebrations and traffic was also diverted. (UNI)
