India and China ink pacts including on sports, culture and traditional medicine

Beijing, Aug 12 : India and China on Monday inked four pacts including on sports, culture and traditional medicines.

The agreements and MoUs were signed during the three-day visit of External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar.

The pacts include 'Plan of Action to Implement the Protocol' between the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China on Cooperation in Bilateral Relations, 2020.

This was signed by Dr S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.

There was an MoU on Sports Cooperation between the General Administration of Sports of Peoples’ Republic of China and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

This was inked by Radhey Shyam Julaniya, Secretary Sports in India and Gao Zhidan, Deputy Director General, General Administration of Sports of China.

India's envoy to China Vikram Misri signed two agreements Programme of Cultural Exchange and one between National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of China and the Ministry of Ayush in India concerning cooperation in Traditional Medicine, MEA sources said.

After his interaction with the Chinese counterpart, External Affairs Minister Dr Jaishankar said the talks were successful and both sides also discussed new ideas for greater engagement and closer ties between the two countries.

Dr Jaishankar is in China on a three-day visit to co-chair the second meeting of the India-China High Level Mechanism on Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges.

Prior to his visit, a Ministry of External Affairs statement has said in Delhi, "During his stay in China, Dr Jaishankar will also exchange views with the Foreign Minister of China on the entire gamut of bilateral relations- including upcoming high-level visits later this year, as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest."
