New Delhi, Aug 12: Strongly condemning the 24 fold hike by the CBSE for examination fee for Scheduled castes and scheduled tribes students for the tenth and with board examination, the Congress on Monday demanded its rollback.
'In the last six years the BJP government at the Centre has meted out the most step motherly treatment to tribal community. Dalits have been victims of political alienation and social injustice.
Once again an insensitive government has struck at the future of the new generation of dalits. CBSE has increased the 10th and 12th board examination fee by 24 times for the students belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. They now have to pay ₹ 1200 fee instead of ₹ 50. Fees of general category students were also increased by 100%, from ₹ 750 to ₹ 1500. The congress demands that the 24 fold hike in fees be immediately rolled back. If it does not do so, it would be proved that it is another attempt by the BJP government to obliterate the vision of Babasaheb Ambedkar for dalits,'AICC media incharge Randeep Surjewala said in a statement.
Mr Surjewala said BJP government at the centre had been doing injustice to dalits since it came to power in 2014.'
The BJP government has been doing injustice to the Dalits at the institutional level. The Dalit atrocities in Una, forcing Rohit Vemula to commit suicide and the RSS/BJP attacking the reservation provided in the constitution is a proof of this. In the BJP government, there has been a Dalit atrocity every 12 minutes.
The BJP has now directly attacked the future of the country, the new generation. Why is the Modi government talking about development, justice, education and health denying Dalits the right to education?,' he said. (UNI)
