Chennai, Aug 11: Asserting that he was out of politics but still active in public life, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday said he accepted the VP post with a heavy heart as he could not visit the BJP party office and meet the party cadres.
Speaking at the release of his book, chronicling his two years in office by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he said he was not a member of a political party now. He said he was out of politics, but not out of public life. Stating that he never thought that he would become Vice President, he said he shed tears when he assumed office because, being a VP, he could not visit the BJP party office.
'I did not shed tears for losing the Ministerial post. But when I was nominated for the post VP, I left the BJP office with a heavy heart', Naidu said. Recalling that he used to write in walls about the visit of late Prime Minister A B Vajpayee, Mr Naidu said he was proud to sit next with him one day.
He said he was an ordinary person and the BJP had made him Rural Development Minister, Urban Development Minister, Parliamentary Affairs, Information and Broadcasting and now Vice President, besides Party spokesman and President. (UNI)
