New Delhi, Aug 7: Various leaders and people, belonging to different strata of life, have been queuing up to pay tribute to former Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, who passed away on Tuesday night, following a massive cardiac arrest.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh reached her residence to pay homage.
Israeli Ambassador Ron Malka also reached the residence to paid tribute. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, senior BJP leader LK Advani, BJP working president JP Nadda, senior Congress leader AK Antony, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia, BSP chief Mayawati, SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and party leader Ram Gopal Yadav were among the leaders who paid their respect to the departed leader.
Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien, former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, Ministers and MPs also paid homage to her. Swaraj served as Foreign Affairs Minister in the first Narendra Modi government from 2014 to 2019.
Mortal remains of the departed leader were shifted to the BJP headquarters by noon .
At 3 pm, the mortal remains will be taken to Lodhi Road crematorium, where her last rites will be performed with full state honours. (UNI)
