New Delhi, Aug 5 : Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday slammed the resolution seeking abrogation of Article 370 which provides special status for Jammu and Kashmir.
Participating in the debate on the resolution, the LoP averred that Government may bring any number of laws but integration is only through the heart. "Integration isn't possible through law, it is only possible through the passage of heart," said Mr Azad.
He asserted that the National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre had put an end to all the integration (of people of J&K with the rest of India) that had taken place in the past 30-35 years. Opposing the resolution which takes away special status conferred on Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Azad said,' You want a Lieutenant Governor to run the state. You have made J&K a nonentity.'
"People who are bringing this resolution, try to make Gujarat a Union Territory, then we will see," said Mr Azad and added, 'You are talking of New India on the behest of breaking old India.'
He also said that today one state is being removed from India's map. Also warning Government not to do vote politics and play with India's tradition, culture and history, he said the government could have done it after four-five months as Vidhan Sabha elections were due in the state.(UNI)
