NIA files chargesheet against 18 accused in Ramalingam Murder Case

New Delhi, Aug 2: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed chargesheet against 18 accused persons in Ramalingam murder case in Chennai NIA court.

All 18 accused, residents of Thanjavur district, have been booked under section 120B, 341, 294(b), 302, 212 and 153A(1)(b) of IPC and section 16(1)(a), 18, 18-B, 19 and 20 of the UA(P) Act before the Special NIA Court Chennai. This case pertains to the lethal attack and killing of Ramalingam, a native of Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu on February 5 by accused persons who are all activists and leaders of Popular Front of India (PFI) and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) for interfering in their religious propagation activity at Pakku Vinayagam Thopu village in Thiruvidaimarudur on that day.

The case was originally registered with Thiruvidaimaruthur Police Station, Thanjavur district on February 6 and the NIA took over the case on April 25.
Central terror probe agency during investigation revealed that accused persons, when victim Ramalingam had an altercation with the PFI team on the morning of February 5 at Pakku Vinayagam Thopu village, they hatched a criminal conspiracy and attacked Ramalingam, causing his death,with the intention of terrorising people and deterring anyone from further interfering in the religious propagation activity of the PFI/SDPI.

The killing of Ramalingam, had caused communal disharmony and created terror in the minds of a section of people. The accused Thowheeth Batcha, Abdul Majith, Bhurkhanudeen, Shahul Hameed had lethally attacked Ramalingam and caused his death while Mohamed Thoufik , Mohamed Farvees had facilitated the same through reconnaissance over the victim’s movements, the probe agency said in charge sheet.

Accused Mohammed Ibrahim had provided the vehicle, while Mohamed Hasan Kuthous had harboured the assailants and reconnaissance team, after the incident. Another accused Mohamed Asarudeen, Mohamed Riyas, Nijam Ali, Sarbudeen, Mohamed Rizwan, Mohamed Faruk and Myden Ahamed Shali were also parties to the criminal conspiracy to commit the terrorist act, while Rahman Sadiq, Mohammad Ali Jinna and Nafeel Hasan, all PFI leaders, had planned, coordinated and supervised over the execution of the heinous crime.

“Accused persons Mohamed Asarudeen Mohamed Riyas, Nijam Ali, Sarbudeen, Mohamed Rizwan,Mohamed Thoufik, Mohamed Farvees, Thowheeth Batcha, Mohammed Ibrahim, besides Mohamed Faruk and Myden Ahamed Shali have been arrested and at present they are in judicial custody, while Mohammad Ali Jinna and Nafeel Hasan are absconding, ever since the incident”, the NIA said in statement.
Further investigation is continued, the probe agency further said.(UNI)
