Modi Govt misusing NIA to target Muslims, says Stalin

Leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu and DMK president M K Stalin has accused the Modi Government of misusing the National Investigation Agency to target Muslims in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere and portray them as terrorists.Apparently referring to the recent arrest of 16 Muslims in Tamil Nadu,  14 of them deported from Dubai for alleged funding of banned international terrorist outfit Ansarullah, Stalin.

In a statement has refused to go into details but said “branding all Muslims as terrorists is totally unacceptable and condemnable”.He said the NIA officials had made two arrests without even informing the Tamil Nadu police though there is an internal security wing under DIG rank office in the DGP office, besides the Q branch special police which keeps an eye on extremists. He said all these wings were under the direct control of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy who holds the home portfolio.

He hoped the Chief Minister, without remaining a mere spectator to the intrusion of policing in the State by the central agency, should take up with the Centre the “misuse “of NIA.So far the Modi Government was misusing agencies like the Income Tax, ED and the CBI to browbeat the opposition. Now it had stared misusing the NIA tasked with tackling terrorist threat emanating from within and outside, he said and it would endanger national security.
