Agency News

Lucknow, Jul 30 : Responding to opposition's demand, Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday claimed that Unnao MLA Kuldeep Singh Senger has already been suspended after an enquiry by the disciplinary committee last year.

“Opposition parties are not aware of the fact that a disciplinary action was taken against Sengar last year itself. He was issued a notice by the disciplinary committee and was later suspended from the party,” BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi told reporters here. “We had not issued any press release then, but I am officially stating this now when you have asked me,” he said.

On Sunday, a speeding truck collided with a car in which Unnao rape case victim was traveling along with her lawyer, aunt and aunt's sister in UP's Rae Barelli. In the accident, her aunt and aunt's sister were killed while rape victim and lawyer were stated to be in critical condition. The victim, last year has filed an FIR against Unnao BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and others for gang raping her. The victim's father died last year in police custody.

The opposition 'smelling' Sengar's hand in the accident, has demanded immediate suspension of the BJP MLA from the party, while a high handed probe. Mr Tripathi stated that strict action would be taken against the BJP MLA if found guilty. “I want to make it clear that no undue favour will be granted to anyone in the regime of BJP. If anyone is found guilty, strict action will be taken. The case is sub-judice and everyone wants to know the truth.”

The UP Congress held a massive demonstration in the state capital on Tuesday, and thousands of the workers including women were taken in custody when they marched towards the BJP office from the GPO, where they were sitting on dharna. Police also had to use mild forces to restrict them, sources said.

The Congress agitation was led by their senior leaders including legislature party leader Ajay Kumar Lalu, legislators Aradhana Mishra, Aditi Singh and Deepak Singh, who raised demand for action against the BJP MLA and demanded his expulsion from the party.

Congress leader Vindo Kumar Mishra, who was among the party leaders arrested by the police, alleged that the BJP government was trying to protect the MLA.
AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra posted a picture on social media of Unnao rape accused legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and asked why the BJP didn't expel the MLA despite being booked in sexual assault case. “What is the BJP waiting for? Why has this man not been expelled from their party even when his name is in the latest FIR in the Unnao Rape Case?” she tweeted. (UNI)
