New Delhi, Jul 30: Issue of inter-linking all rivers across the country was raised in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday during Zero Hour and the members cutting across the party lines have requested the government to work on it.
Talking about floods in north Indian rivers BJP’s Shiv Pratap Shukla said during Monsoon most of rivers get flooded which affect thousands of villages. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa asked the government to compensate the farmers for their loss arising out of floods in Ghaghar river.
Ram Gopal Yadav (SP) spoke on water shortage and schemes for the eviction of people who live on filled-in water bodies.
Amar Patnaik (BJD) said that existing crop insurance needs to be enhanced in rain-fed and irrigated land, under the National Disaster Response Fund.
