New Delhi, Jul 29 : Criticising Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the accident in which Unnao rape survivor was critically injured and her family members killed on Sunday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday questioned state government's audacity to run a 'bhayamukth Uttar Pradesh' (fear-free Uttar Pradesh) campaign.
"She herself lies grievously wounded in hospital from the same accident. The accused continues as a BJP legislator, and the BJP state government has the audacity to run a fear-free UP campaign?" Ms Priyanka said in a series of tweet.
The girl, who accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of raping her, was critically injured and her family members killed on Sunday near Raebareli after a truck collided with their car.
"So a woman is allegedly raped by a BJP MLA. Her father is beaten up and dies in custody. A key witness dies mysteriously last year. Now her aunt who was also a witness is killed and her lawyer is critically injured in an accident caused by a truck with blackened number plates," Ms Priyanka added.
Questioning Chief Minister, the Congress general secretary asked, "does it have no moral duty towards its citizens anymore, or was that never on its agenda anyway?".
Taking to twitter, Rahul also lashed out at Mr Adityanath government and said, "Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, a new special education bulletin for Indian women. Don’t ask questions if a BJP MLA is accused of having raped you".
Sengar has been in jail for a year over the alleged rape which took place in 2017.
The family has alleged that the accident was staged by Sengar as the number plate of the truck which collided with the car had been blackened. (UNI)
