New Delhi, July 27 : Additional Sessions Judge Arvind Kumar on Saturday granted interim protection from arrest to Ratul Puri, nephew of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, till July 29 in connection with AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam.
North Block had scrapped the contract over allegations of corruption and kickbacks being paid in the deal.
Income Tax Department had detected alleged tax evasion of more than Rs 1,350 crore during search and seizure operations against Hindustan Power Projects. It was further submitted in the case that the group was operating through a maze of shell companies and bogus billings, over invoicing of imports and round tripping of funds.
Mr Puri has been grilled by the investigating agency in the past also. Ratul is the son of Nita and Deepak Puri, the CMD of Optical Storage Media Firm Moser Baer.
Hindustan Power projects Pvt Limited's Chairman Ratul Puri today submitted through his anticipatory bail that he was anticipating arrest in the case, while he was cooperating in the probe so there was no need of his arrest.(UNI)
