New Delhi, Jul 26 : Congress floor leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has been appointed the Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Parliament.

The PAC has been constituted with effect from July 24 for the term ending on April 30, 2020, the Lok Sabha Secretariat said in a statement on Friday.
The PAC comprises 22 members of which 15 are from Lok Sabha and seven from Rajya Sabha.

The prominent members in the PAC are Bhartruhari Mahtab (BJD), TR Baalu (DMK), Jayant Sinha (BJP) and Bhupender Yadav (BJP).

The committee is constituted every year for examination of accounts showing the appropriation of sums granted by Parliament for expenditure of Government and such other accounts laid before Parliament such as accounts of autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies.

The committee also examines reports of Comptroller and Auditor General of India on various subjects like civil, defence, posts, railways and taxation.The PAC has presented 1,631 reports so far since it became a parliamentary committee on January 26, 1950.(UNI)
