New Delhi, Jul 24 : AIADMK lawmaker Vijila Sathyananth on Wednesday suggested to set up special court in every districts across the country and time bound probe in the matter pertaining to sexual offences against the children.
Initiating the debate on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill 2019, Congress leader Vivek Tankha appreciated it by saying that "you have included a provision of strictest punishment in this Bill which is a need of hour."
However, he also mentioned that strict punishment can't stop rape or murder as "we are not focussing on real issue." Entire amendment is focussed on punishment only, he added.
"It's a tip of iceberg and we have to do much more... Safety of children is much more needed. We can't send our girl outside in the evening because we have fear. The law and order is poor now," said Mr Tankha.BJP's Harnath Singh Yadav blamed the television, social media and films for increase in crime against children.
Participating in the debate, the BJP lawmaker questioned, "Why suddenly there is rise in crime against children? What we are presenting them? What we are feeding them?
What kind of culture we are instilling in them?"
Supporting the Bill, AIADMK leader Vijila Sathyananth said it's a comprehensive bill with good amendments.
In the last 6 years, crime against children have rose by 300 per cent. "We need to stop this menace in this country," she added.
Suggesting the government in an effort to stop such crimes, the AIADMK leader said, "A special court should be formed in every districts, the judges should be women and public prosecutor must be an aged person. There should be no age caps."(UNI)
