Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 24: Ms Shweta Bhatt, wife of dismissed IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, who was undergoing imprisonment in a custodial death case that dates back to 1990, called on Opposition leader in Kerala Assembly Ramesh Chennithala here on Wednesday.
Ms Bhatt, who was here to meet Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and top leaders of Congress and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), alleged that her husband was being denied human rights in jail. Seeking the help of the Congress party and their MPs to raise the issue in Parliament, Ms Bhatt told the Opposition leader that she has filed an appeal in the High Court as part of her fight against injustice.
Later talking to newspersons here, the Opposition leaders said the family of Mr Bhatt was the victim of autocracy under a fascist government at the Centre.
Extending moral support to the wife of Sanjiv Bhatt, Mr Chennithala said she would also call on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the issue. She was accompanied by her son and deputy leader of the Opposition in Kerala Assembly Dr MK Muneer. (UNI)
