341 winners garner 50 per cent & above votes in 2019 Lok Sabha Election

Kolkata, Jul 18 : The Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) on Thursday stated that 341 candidates chalked up victories in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election by garnering an average of 52.7 per cent of total votes polled.

ADR and National Election Watch (NEW) have analysed the vote share for the 542 constituencies in the Lok Sabha Elections, 2019, as elections for Vellore constituency got cancelled. There are 341(63 per cent) winners who emerged victorious bagging 50 per cent  and above of the total votes polled in their constituency.

There are 201(37 per cent) winners who romped home with less than 50 per cent  of the total votes polled in their constituency. Out of 303 winners of BJP, 79(26 per cent) won with less than 50 per cent of total votes polled in their constituencies. 34 (65 per cent) out of 52 winners from INC; 4 (17 per cent) out of 23 winners from DMK; 16 (73 per cent) out of 22 winners from AITC and 9 (41 per cent) out of 22 winners from YSRCP won with less than 50 per cent of total votes polled in their constituency. There are 132 (57 per cent) out of 233 winners analysed with declared criminal cases who have won with a vote share of 50 per cent and above.

There are 313 (66 per cent) out of 475 crorepati winners analysed who won with a vote share of 50 per cent and above. There are seven winners who won with a margin of victory of less than 2000 votes.

There are three winners who won with more than 50 per cent of margin of victory.

There are 115 out of 233 winners with declared criminal cases who won against a runner up with a clean background. Among these 115 winners, six winners won with more than 40 per cent margin of victory. Among these, C R Patil (BJP) from Navsari constituency in Gujarat won with 52.7 per cent margin of victory. There are 115 winners with a clean background who won against a runner up with declared criminal cases.

Out of these 115 winners, seven won with more than 40 per cent margin of victory. There are 54 out of 475 crorepati winners who won against a non-crorepati runners up. Among these 54 winners, five winners won with more than 30 per cent margin of victory. Among these, Chandra Prakash Joshi (BJP) from Chittorgarh constituency in
Rajasthan won with 39.5 per cent margin of victory.

There are 48 non-crorepati winners who won against crorepati runners up. 21 of them won with more than 50 per cent of vote share.

There are among the 542 winners,78 are women. Among the women winners, Darshana Vikram Jardosh (BJP) from Surat Constituency in Gujarat won with the highest vote share, i.e. 74.47 per cent in her constituency and 51.3 per cent of margin of victory.

Out of total 225 re-elected winners 160 (71 per cent) won with more than 50 per cent of vote share. There are 28 re-elected winners who won with less than five per cent of margin of victory whereas 15 won with more than 40 per cent of margin of victory. The NOTA button instated by the ECI in 2013 gave the voters an option of rejecting all the candidates in their constituencies.

Out of 61,31,33,300 votes polled in Lok Sabha, 2019, 65,14,558 (1.06 per cent) were polled for NOTA. Out of 55,38,02,946 votes polled in Lok Sabha, 2014, 60,02,942 (1.08 per cent) were polled for NOTA. (UNI)
