Chennai, July 13: About 30 per cent members, including the Project Director and the Mission Director of the Team Chandrayaan-2, which will be launched on Monday morning, are women.

Sources said the Project Director is M.Vanitha, an electronics systems engineer. Vanitha, who was responsible for data handling systems for India’s remote sensing satellites, was initially reluctant to accept this historical responsibility. But agreed later, after then ISRO Satellite Centre Director M Annadurai persuaded her.

The Mission Director is Ritu Karidhal, a Master’s degree holder in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.

Ritu Karidhal and Muthayya Vanitha, both in their 40s, will be leading the Moon Mission’s main components- project oversight as well as crucial final phase of the landing. (UNI)
